BURNING ORDINANCE
The Gerrish Township Burning Ordinance prohibits the burning of materials, other than for domestic purposes at all times. You may burn household paper or paper product refuse that has been generated from within the home in an approved metal container with a screen over the top. Holes in the screen may not be more than 3/4 of an inch in diameter. Attended campfires within fire pits, metal barbecues and/or campfire equipment are permitted. Clearing, cleaning and attended burning of brush from a lot is allowable if there is a covering of snow. If you are clearing five (5) acres or more, the covering of snow is not required. Anyone in violation of this ordinance may be issued a civil infraction violation (ticket) immediately. The first offense is subject to a civil fine of not less than $50.00, first repeat offense not less than $125.00, second repeat offense not less than $250.00, third repeat, or any subsequent repeat offense, not less than $400.00 each.
