Dust Control
Change for 2009: Brine will be applied more than once this year. The RCRC has informed us that brining a gravel road actually helps to extend the life of the gravel . . as well as to cut down on the dust. If you would like to have your subdivision road(s) brined when the Township is doing the 'main thoroughfares', contact the Supervisor (supervisor@gerrishtownship.org) regarding when you and your neighbors should have the money to the Township so that your roads can be included at that time.
Main thoroughfares - On June 6, 2006, the Board determined that only main thoroughfares would be brined.
At a regular meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2001, on motion by Trustee Weatherly, supported by Trustee Lippert, the Gerrish Township Board adopted the following policy regarding dust control, commonly called brining. Dust control of residential or platted sub-division roads is a responsibility of the lot owners. Owners may apply to the Township Board for permission to apply chemical dust control to their roads. Such application to the Supervisor should include signatures of 80% of the residents on that road. Chemicals must not be applied within 200 feet of the shore of the lake. Where a significant grade of a hill exists which terminates at the lake, chemicals may not be applied on the lake side of the hill for the first 500 feet from the lake. Requests for Township financed dust control of thoroughfares, roads that have heavy use by other than residents, will be considered on a case by case basis giving consideration to the amount of non-residential use and state ownership of frontage on said road.
