Garbage Pick Up

Yard Waste Pick ups will begin May 7, 2010 through November.  Pick ups are scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month.

Garbage pick-up for Gerrish Township residents is on Monday mornings.  Please have your garbage to the road side by 6:00 a.m.  You are allowed 5 bags of garbage each week plus one large item, such as, furniture, tires (3)*, and appliances (FREON does NOT have to be removed). 

*Note:  By State law:

        1) tires must be 'cut in half' (like a bagel).

        2) no deposit bottles in land fills

If you are putting out an item with FREON in it,  YOU MUST CALL Waste Management prior to putting it out.  This will ensure a timely response in getting it picked up.

If a holiday is OBSERVED on Monday your garbage will be picked up on Tuesday.  (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Christmas Day.) 

Please keep your ‘garbage bins’ clean of loose garbage.  The drivers will NOT pick up small, loose items.  (Spraying the ‘garbage bins’ with ammonia will deter the animals.)

If you have a problem with your garbage service please call Waste Management directly at 1-800-796-9696.   If you are using a broad band cell phone, call 866-797-9018.

If you miss your regular pickup, DO NOT drop your garbage off at another location.  You are subject to a fine if you do so!  (This includes at the Township Hall!)

***If winter road conditions do not allow for safe pick up of your garbage, Waste Management has provided, at no additional cost to the Township, a small dumpster located at the Township Hall for your convenience***
